Maybe Not A Background Check But Something to Only Allow the Qualified

As we all know it is an election year. Many people are very excited about casting their votes which I like. I like that people want to be part of the electoral process, it is democracy at work. Of course, you know I have a bit of a concern. In speaking with many people, I have encountered their general lack of knowledge about anything political, current events, global or local and an overall inability to discuss any of this subject matter.

I know many people believe showing an identification card to vote is a horrible idea. I agree. I believe we should implement a quick test to see if you qualify to vote.

It would include things like being able to name the leaders of countries, like the big ones, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, I mean you don’t need to know who is running shit in Chad. (It’s General Idriss Déby Itno, I Googled it.)

Also, they must be able to list the Governor and Senators of their state.

Lastly, they must be able to list three current events topics, two national and one global, and discuss their opinions on these events.

If a person can meet these requirements then they should be able to vote.

I’m sorry, I don’t want uninformed people who get the breadth of their knowledge from E! and Bravo voting. I don’t want people who think it’s okay for the President or the Speaker of the House to weep publicly. Yes, I realize that these examples seem to really point that I don’t want women to vote but unfortunately, this applies to many men as well.

I’m sorry but the straw that broke the camels back is when I was speaking with a teacher who is 35 and she did not know who Merkel, Hollande and Assad were and could not speak to the on-going refugee problem and the Paris terrorist attacks. A teacher! What do teacher’s discuss in the lounge? Apparently not world events. Keep in mind, these are the people in charge of teaching the youth of America and they don’t even know what in the heck is going on. Frightening.

I think it’s time for some testing, which says a lot because I am a really shitty tester in every aspect which is only a good thing when we’re talking about E.P.T.
